What Is Supercritical CO2 Extraction?
Supercritical Fluid Extraction is the process of separating one chemical from another one by using a fluid known as a supercritical fluid… with the most commonly used example being carbon dioxide (CO2). A supercritical fluid is one that does not have distinct liquid and gas phases pass a certain temperature and pressure combination. It has the ability to act like both a gas and a liquid at the same time.
Supercritical CO2 extraction is frequently used to isolate essential oils from plants, including the isolation of CBD from plants of the Cannabis strains. The properties of the CO2 can be altered by varying the temperature and pressure, which allows for the selective extraction of pure compounds.
The extraction of compounds from plants is a complex process that can be affected by the cell structure of a particular plant species, the properties of the supercritical fluid used in the extraction process, and the chemicals of the solvent used during the extraction process. Supercritical CO2 Extraction is a reliable method for achieving high quality plant extracts, resulting in a product that is enriched in the desired compound, free from solvent contamination, and completely safe to use.
During the process, the CO2 is used to both pull the CBD from the plant and to act as a solvent for the CBD. It also allows simultaneously separation of other plants compounds, such as THC and terpenes. A separator keeps each component separated based on its chemical properties.

What is Dry Ice?
Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide (CO2). It is colorless, non-flammable, and has a sour zesty odor. Under normal room temperature and atmospheric pressure, dry ice sublimates - which means that it goes directly from the solid state to the gaseous state without passing through a liquid state. Thus, dry ice is sometimes used to create a dense fog-like smoke effect. Because carbon dioxide is heavier than air, the fog from dry ice sinks and hovers near the ground. Dry ice must be carefully handled because its low temperature can cause freezing burns (similar to frostbite). It should also not be used in confined locations because inhaling too much carbon dioxide gas can elevate carbon dioxide levels in the blood, leading to acidosis.
